NBR Home Maintenance Plan
Washing:
- Only use salon quality products on your hair extensions. This will help extend the lifespan of your hair extensions. Products will be discussed during your appointment and a goody bag of the recommendations will be provided so you can get started right away with them
- Shampoo gently between rows, no need for vigorous scrubbing
- Conditioner is necessary and don’t be afraid to condition your scalp
- Use a leave-in conditioner and/or oil right after your shower and before you brush out your hair with the detangling brush
- When brushing wet hair, start from your ends and work your way up to the scalp. Hold the hair in one hand (like a ponytail) and brush down
- It is very important to be gentle with your hair extensions. While hair extensions themselves will not harm your hair, rough handling of them will pull your hair and may cause damage
- Salt water and chlorine can cause hair extensions to become dry. To minimize these effects, wet hair completely in a shower and apply a conditioner from mid shaft to ends.
Styling:
- Wefts can “sag” when they are wet for an extended period of time. Blow drying the weft after showers and damp environments is very important. The hair itself can be air dried and is recommended.
- Rough dry your hair 80% of the way (use your fingers, not a brush to insure there is no tugging on the extensions)
- You can use a round brush with a small amount of tension to smooth your hair and the extension hair the last few minutes of your blow-dry
- Use styling products recommended by your stylist. Heat protection is necessary
- The extension hair is human hair so you can style as you would your own hair, hot tools are fine with heat protection
Sleeping:
- Brush the extension hair out and then place in a loose ponytail, top knot, or braid
Other:
- If you notice anything concerning like excess tangling or hair shed, please contact your stylist right away. There are quick fixes for this and it needs to be addressed right away
- You can live a normal, active lifestyle with NBR, just treat the extensions with some gentleness to keep them looking their best
- Not all sunscreens are hair-friendly, especially if you’re rocking blonde or light extensions. Some ingredients can actually turn your extensions pink or orange.
- Sunscreen Ingredients to AVOID: Avobenzone (can cause color changes), Oxybenzone (dries & damages hair), Octocrylene & Octinoxate (causes buildup)
- Go for mineral sunscreens with Zinc Oxide or Titanium Dioxide
- Maintenance appointments will be made for every 6 to 8 weeks
